Ingredients

For about six small shots
  • 2 oz fresh ginger root scrubbed
  • 2 medium oranges juiced
  • 1 large lemon juiced
  • 1/2 cup cold water

Equipment

  • Cutting board
  • knife
  • Citrus juicer
  • Blender
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Bowl
  • Clean jar or six small glasses

Instructions

Blend and strain
  1. Scrub the ginger under running water and slice it thinly.
  2. Wash the oranges and lemon, then cut and juice them. Remove any seeds.
  3. Add the sliced ginger, orange juice, lemon juice, and 1/2 cup cold water to a blender. Blend for 45 to 60 seconds, until the ginger is finely broken down.
  4. Pour through a fine-mesh strainer set over a bowl, pressing the pulp gently with a spoon. Transfer the strained juice to a clean jar.
  5. Shake or stir, then pour into six small glasses, about 2 ounces each. Drink promptly or refrigerate in a covered jar and use within 24 hours. Yield varies with the fruit.
